Role of a Performer

 Thriller, Micheal Jackson, 1982, USA

Smooth Criminal, Micheal Jackson, 1988, USA

Micheal Jackson's entire life has been revolved around music. He joined the Jackson 5 when he was 6 years old. He first started out being a backup musician for the musical group. Shortly after, he started sharing lead vocals with his brother Jermaine. Micheal was an instant sensation in America. When people came to see Jackson 5, they would be going to see Micheal Jackson. He would not break out with his performances until his solo career. It was not till the late 1970s to early 1980s where Micheal would go solo with his music. One of the most iconic music videos of all time is Thriller. Which ended up sealing MTV's reputation in the music industry. Micheal Jackson blew up in fandom after the music video and album were released. Thriller was the best-selling album of all-time in the U.S. After thriller, Micheal released his next album labeled as "Bad". Which stirred up some controversy in the music industry. Since Bad would depict him as a rule breaker. Which was a risk at the time but was no challenge for Micheal to take on. He continued his success throughout the entirety of his career. By being the most rewarded artist of all-time. Even right before his untimely death. He was about to go on a comeback tour known as "This is it". As you can see Micheal Jackson is no joke when it comes to music. He spent his entire life as one of the greatest performers of all-time.

Thriller is where Micheal Jackson's performance really took off. Micheal used his impeccable dancing to stun audiences. Thriller is a perfect example of this attribute. Although the dancing is nothing difficult but it is one of the most famous dances of all time. Which would be one of the most iconic dance moves Micheal would create. The next big performance of Micheal Jackson's career would be Smooth Criminal. The music video has Micheal's signature move which is known as the moonwalk. Which he would go on to perform countless times during his music tours. The music video itself is one of the greatest music videos of all-time. Just watch all of Micheal Jackson's dance moves through the entire music video. Music videos were a giant part of Micheal Jackson's career. His talents went further than just music videos. He would perform these dances live in concert while singing. Where he would stun audiences with his talents.

In my opinion, Micheal Jackson is the greatest performer of all time. You cannot name any close to the talents Micheal Jackson has. Or even the accolades that Micheal had achieved through his life. Given the name king of pop is just something you cannot compete with. Although his life had many controversies you cannot deny his impact on music. He changed the game with his music videos and sensational vocals. If you were to go to one of his concerts you would not be disappointed. It would be one of the greatest moments in your life seeing him hit his iconic moonwalk. Then immediately after hit a perfect pitch to his lyrics. I would gladly say I would give up my firstborn to go see Micheal Jackson perform live.

  1. Hi Coleman!
I really enjoyed this blog! I agree with you when you say that fans of the Jackson 5 came to see Michael once he was a lead vocal in the group. Other than his sister Tina, you don't hear much of the other family members that were involved in the musical group.
I love the fact that you chose two of my absolute favorites by Michael! 'Thriller' holds a special place in my heart after a group of friends, myself, and our middle school's principal performed this dance at our last school dance before our graduation and before our principal retired. I ran into that principal years later and she still cherishes it just as much as I do, thank you for reminding me of that fond memory!

  2. Hi Cole,

I really liked your selection! Everyone's blog posts are bringing so many memories back to me. I listened to Thriller when I was 8 and 9, and I played it at my 10th Birthday Party. I thought playing with Nerf Guns and listening to "Beat It" was the best thing ever when I was younger. This blog post was wonderful to read.
I agree, that Micheal is more than the King of Pop. He really took music by the reigns and made it his. On top of leaving his imprint on music, he influenced dancing on stage, and music videos. I mean, dancing on stage was popular before but does any other singular artist have such an iconic move as the moonwalk? Or the Smooth Criminal? Anyways, thanks so much for this blog. I really liked it.
